WITHOUT A
SCRIPT.

You do not need a perfect monologue memorised at 2 a.m. You need a few flexible moves, a phone that records, and the courage to hear yourself once. That is the whole stack.

Paper 3 rewards clarity and connection — not theatrical polish. When students freeze, it is usually because the script ran out. Build a kit instead: openers, connectors, recoveries. Say it. Say more. Say better.

Start with one topic you already care about — food, friends, a weekend plan. Speak for sixty seconds without stopping. Then listen back. Not to grade yourself. To notice one thing you can improve tomorrow. Progress, not scores.

Examiners listen for how you link ideas. Six connectors carry most of the load: besides that, looking at it another way, for example, that said, in the end, and what I mean is. Steal them. Practise them out loud until they feel natural — macam chatting with a friend, but cleaner.

Intonation is the difference between sounding unsure and sounding ready. Rise for a question. Fall when you land a point. Stress the word that carries meaning — I really enjoy hits different from a flat mumble.

Pair the clip with shadowing: play a sentence, pause, copy the shape of the voice. Do not chase a British accent. Chase bravery. Your own voice, clearer each round.
