SAY IT
LIKE YOU
MEAN IT

Intonation in six minutes — the cover move that makes Paper 3 sound brave, not recited.

You already know the words. The hang-up is how they leave your mouth — flat, rushed, or stuck in “um… lah…” limbo. Intonation is the shortcut: same vocab, louder confidence. Say it. Say more. Say better.

Malaysian SPM students often treat Paper 3 like a script recital. Examiners hear that instantly. What they reward instead is shape — stress on the right word, a rise when you ask, a fall when you finish. Six minutes of deliberate practice beats an hour of silent rereading.

Watch the cover drill

Ready when you are — headphones optional, voice required.

Three moves that change the tape

  1. Stress the meaning word. “I really agree” hits harder than equal stress on every syllable.
  2. Finish with a fall. Statements that trail up sound unsure. Drop the last beat — you own the line.
  3. Pause like you mean it. One clean breath between ideas beats filler noise every time.

Try this tonight: pick one Paper 3 prompt, record yourself for 60 seconds, then shadow the cover drill once. Jangan malu — awkward reps are the point. Your group chat can be the audience if the bedroom feels too quiet.

Practice takeaways

  • One loud CTA for your night: speak for six minutes, not scroll for sixty.
  • Swap two fillers (“um”, “lah”) for two stealable phrases from the Word Bank.
  • Replay the drill tomorrow — same lines, braver mouth.
